HERE IT IS: A TRIBUTE TO LEONARD COHEN (Blue Note, $18.98) – Producer Larry Klein invited an all-star list of vocalists to sing Leonard Cohen songs: Norah Jones, Mavis Staples, Peter Gabriel, Gregory Porter, Sarah McLachlan, Luciana Souza, James Taylor, Iggy Pop, David Gray, and Nathaniel Rateliff. To accompany them, Klein put together a fantastic band (Immanuel Wilkins, saxes; Bill Frisell  and Greg Leisz, guitars; Kevin Hays and Larry Goldings, keyboards; Scott Colley, bass; and Nate Smith, drums). Along with the vocals, there are two instrumentals led by Mr. Wilkins (“Avalanche”) and Mr. Frisell (“Bird on the Wire”).

THE BLUE HOUR (Nonesuch, $16.98) – “The Blue Hour is a song cycle born of a collaboration among five composers—Rachel Grimes, Angélica Negrón, Shara Nova, Caroline Shaw, and Sarah Kirkland Snider—commissioned and performed by the chamber orchestra, A Far Cry,” and sung by Ms. Nova. The song cycle is set to excerpts from Carolyn Forché’s epic poem, “On Earth,” from her book, The Blue Hour (2003).

Conrad Herwig, THE LATIN SIDE OF CHARLES MINGUS (Savant, $16.99) – Trombonist Conrad Herwig has done Latin Side albums devoted to the music of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Horace Silver. Now, he turns his attention to Charles Mingus, with some well-chosen tunes, like “Gunslinging Bird,” “Boogie Stop Shuffle,” “Duke Ellington’ Sound of Love,” and “Better Get Hit in Your Soul.”  Herwig’s crack sextet of veteran musicians is augmented by trumpeter Randy Brecker; Rubén Blades narrates on “No Dejes Que Pase Aqui (Don’t Let It Happen Here).”
