Serwa Boateng's Guide to Vampire Hunting introduces Serwa, a 12-year old vampire slayer who could use a crossbow before she could ride a bike. When an obayifo (witch) destroys her childhood home, Serwa's parents leave on a quest to defeat her, while Serwa stays with her aunt and cousin. Now she's dealing with mean girls and algebra and trying to be a “normal” kid. When an adze (shapeshifting vampire) infiltrates her school, it's up to Serwa to whip some of her classmates into monster-fighting shape. When she uncovers a family secret that upends everything she thought she knew, Serwa will have to decide which side of herself--normal girl or slayer--is the right one.

Roseanne A. Brown is an immigrant from the West African nation of Ghana and a graduate of the University of Maryland, where she completed the Jimenez-Porter Writers’ House program.
