My Beautiful Black Hair is a book about Black women embracing their natural hair. One hundred and one Black women share their stories of learning to love their natural hair and the immense power in that self-love.
St. Clair Detrick-Jules has a BA from Brown University in French and Francophone Studies. She has been featured on NPR's Strange Fruit, BuzzFeed News, The Washington Post and Everyday Black History: Afro Appreciation. Her documentary DACAmented has received awards at Immigration Film Fest, Baltimore International Black Film Festival, Ogden City Latino Film Festival, and Cornell University’s Centrally Isolated Film Festival.
Detrick-Jules will be in conversation with Markette Sheppard, an Emmy Award–winning journalist and children’s book author. Her bestselling debut book, What Is Light?, inspired children to discover the light within through everyday surroundings. Markette is also founder of The GLOW Brands, LLC, a media company aimed at illuminating perspectives around the world.
