Kay Cosgrove - Tony Hoagland's The Art of Voice: Poetic Principles and Practice — in conversation with Jody Bolz and Richard McCann

Upcoming Event
Saturday, January 18, 2020 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

In his last book, Tony Hoagland, the award-winning poet, essayist, and teacher, worked with Cosgrove, his former student, to distill some of the lessons from his distinguished writing career into this primer on poetic voice. Covering the basic elements of voice such as speech-register, authoritative statement, and tone-shifting, the book also includes models and exercises. Joining Cosgrove to read, demonstrate Hoagland’s teachings, and celebrate the legacy of the late author of What Narcissism Means to Me and Twenty Poems that Could Save America, will be Jody Bolz, former co-editor of Poet Lore and author, most recently, of The Near and Far, and Richard McCann, professor in the American University MFA program and author of Mother of Sorrows.
