Gail Collins - No Stopping Us Now: The Adventures of Older Women in American History

Upcoming Event
Monday, October 28, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In her bestselling When Everything Changed and America’s Women, Collins, a New York Times op-ed columnist who served as the paper’s first woman editorial page editor, chronicled women’s long struggle to balance traditional domestic roles with positions of authority in the workplace. Her new book looks back over several centuries to chronicle the country’s shifting attitudes toward older women.  Tracing a serpentine line, these range from the Pilgrims’ view that a woman was marriageable if "civil and under fifty years of age," to later generations’ dismissal of women past optimum reproductive age, to today’s mixed but overall upbeat signals.
