Eric Thurm - Avidly Reads: Board Games — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Saturday, October 19, 2019 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Avidly, the Los Angeles Review-supported online magazine, has specialized in short-form cultural criticism since 2012, and now with the series Avidly Reads, they’re bringing this sharp personal lens to book form. In this edition, telling stories about his passion for board games, Thurm—who has written for Esquire, WIRED, Real Life, and The New York Times, in addition to founding the popular comedy events Drunk Education—reflects on the emotional and social rules these games reveal, probing the ways they upset and enforce relationships and hierarchies, both within the family and on a wider geopolitical stage. To illustrate, Thurm will also be bringing an array of off-the-wall historical games for people to play as part of the event.
