Sayers’s richly imagined debut novel starts in 1895, when sixteen-year-old Juiet LaCompte is passionately involved with an older, married painter. Her mother, a witch, casts a spell to end the affair but instead dooms her daughter to relive it in an endless series of short lives. After returning as Nora, a 1930s screen star, and Sandra, a musician in 1970s Los Angeles, Juliet begins to gain powers of her own as Helen, a Washington, D.C. magazine executive—and she may at last be able to break the curse. Sayers, a co-founder of the Thoughtful Dog literary magazine, works for Atlantic Media and has been named to Folio’s "Top Women in Media" and twice included in its "Top 100 Media People in America."
