Anthony Robert McMillan OBE, born in Rutherglen, Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK on 30th March 1950, known professionally as Robbie Coltrane, was an actor, comedian & writer who got worldwide recognition during the 2000s for playing Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter movie series. He was appointed an OBE in the New Year Honours of 2006 by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to drama. Robbie was given the Evening Standard British Film Award - Peter Sellers Award for Comedy in 1990. He was honoured for his 'outstanding contribution' to film at the British Academy Scotland Awards of 2011. Coltrane began his career alongside Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Emma Thompson in the sketch series Alfresco. He starred in the BBC miniseries Tutti Frutti during 1987 with Emma, for which he was nominated for his 1st British Academy Television Award for Best Actor. Robbie then came to national prominence starring as criminal psychologist Dr. Eddie "Fitz" Fitzgerald in the ITV series Cracker, winning the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor from 1994 to 1996. Coltrane came 11th in ITV's poll of TV's 50 Greatest Stars in 2006, voted for by the public. He starred in the 4-part Channel 4 series National Treasure alongside Julie Walters during 2016, being nominated for a British Academy Television Award. Robbie appeared in George Harrison's pictures Mona Lisa & Nuns on the Run and as Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in the James Bond movies GoldenEye & The World Is Not Enough. He was also in the films Henry V, Let It Ride, Danny, the Champion of the World, Ocean's Twelve, The Brothers Bloom, Great Expectations, and Effie Gray, having voiced roles in the animated pictures The Tale of Despereaux & Brave.
