Even though it is nearly 40 years since the last vehicles left the Southall factory, the products of The Associated Equipment Company, more commonly known as AEC, are still synonymous with quality and reliability. In this, the second of a series of two books, Howard Berry sets out to give a pictorial overview of the double-deck bus chassis produced by AEC in the post-war years. AEC were known as the builders of London's buses and produced such iconic models as the RT and the Routemaster—the familiar red buses that symbolize London to people across the world, but there was much more to AEC than this. Regents, Renowns, and Bridgemasters all contributed to making AEC the byword for reliability in the PSV world. With approximately 180 black and white and color pictures and informative captions, including views of the vehicles in service as well as shots of vehicles still in existence today, either still in service as well as in preservation, this book is sure to appeal to enthusiasts of the AEC marque and the layman alike.
Howard Berry inherited his interest in road transport from his father. He has a real fondness for or the products of AEC, and for many years has been a Director and committee member of The AEC Society. Having written numerous articles on coach companies who operated AEC’s, he took the plunge and published his first book, a history or Roselyn Coaches of Cornwall in 2017. He has spent 30 years in the passenger transport industry.
